One person was killed and several more were injured in a 6 vehicle accident on Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 70 in Fayette County. The accident occurred on I-70 westbound at the 64 mile marker–which is one mile east of the Vandalia/Pana exit. And, reports say the accident occurred at 2:20 pm. Illinois State Police reports say a Semi-Truck driven by 42 year old Robert A. Todoran of Hammond, Louisiana was traveling west on Interstate 70, where traffic was stopped due to road construction. State Police say Todoran failed to reduce speed to avoid an accident and struck a vehicle driven by 27 year old Jon P. Wingo of Springfield, causing a chain reaction involving a total of 6 vehicles. State Police reports say Torodan’s vehicle left the roadway and traveled down and embankment, where the trailer became engulfed in flames. State Police say the entrapped driver, 42 year old Robert A. Todoran, was pronounced dead on the scene by Fayette County Coroner David Hejl. Also injured in the crash was 27 year old Jon P. Wingo of Springfield and two passengers in Wingo’s vehicle, 51 year old Rachael M. Wingo of Brownstown and a 14 year old female juvenile of Brownstown. There were 4 other vehicles involved, but no reported injuries from the other vehicles. The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit, the Illinois State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, the Fayette County Coroner’s office and the Illinois State Police District 12.
