Tobacco 21 legislation is headed to the Governor’s desk. The bill raises the age to buy tobacco products in Illinois from 18 to 21 and is sponsored by State Representative Camille Lilly.
It took two tries to get the bill passed in the Illinois House. Critics say 18 year old’s should be able to make their own decisions and cite the loss of cigarette tax revenue to the state. The Governor will have to sign it into law for it to take effect.
