(Chicago, IL) — Governor Rauner is refusing to say if he backs the legislative effort to finally ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in the Illinois House. Given the chance to do so yesterday, Governor Rauner wouldn’t say whether he supports the Democratic effort to ratify the ERA. Asked if he’ll advise Republican lawmakers to vote for the ERA, he would only say — quote — I support equal rights for everyone. And when a reporter pushed for an answer on the ERA vote specifically, Rauner repeated his answer. Democrats are pushing for a ratification vote, hoping that Congress will reopen the deadline.
