(San Diego, CA) — The Cardinals homered four times in the first three innings and cruised past the Padres 9-5 in San Diego. Paul DeJong hit a three-run shot in the second inning followed by solo-homers from Harrison Bader, Marcell Ozuna, and Jedd Gyorko to make it 6-0 in the third. Tommy Pham also went deep and Luke Weaver tossed five frames of scoreless ball to pick up the win. The Cards improved to 22-and-14. Eric Lauer was chased in the third inning after giving up six runs to take the loss for the Padres. Travis Jankowski homered as the San Diego rally fell short. The Friars have dropped four-of-five.
(Chicago, IL) — Wilson Contreras homered twice and finished with seven RBI as the Cubs slammed the White Sox 11-2 at Wrigley Field. Contreras launched a grand slam in the first inning, added a solo shot in the sixth and a two-run double in the seventh. Kris Bryant also went deep for the North Siders, which opened the three-game Crosstown Classic series with a win. Tyler Chatwood worked five innings for the win. Carson Fulmer got chased in the second for the White Sox, who fell to 9-and-26 overall. Jose Abreu singled in a run and scored the other in defeat.
