The Fayette County Board heard about the possibility of solar power gardens during its monthly meeting on Tuesday night. Gordy Simonton of Minnesota-based SolarStone Partners was on hand and discussed two pieces of county property along Route 185 that could be used for solar gardens by his company to produce energy that would be provided to the existing electrical grid for the area. County Board member Bryce Kistler has done research on the issue of solar gardens for the past few months and informed his fellow board members that this would be a permit for companies wanting to put solar gardens in the county and it would be another source of revenue for the county as they would be taxed at a commercial rate.
Following discussion, a motion to authorize solar energy systems in the county was approved by the board.
