Helen “Gail” Metivier, 80, of Vandalia, IL passed away at 2:25 PM, Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service honoring Gail will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 05, 2018 at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vandalia with Pastor Krista Stokke officiating. Helen Gail Metivier was born on January 24, 1938 in Vandalia, IL, the daughter of Walter and Helen (Metzger) Barenfanger. She married John C. “Jack” Metivier on March 20, 1965. Gail was a registered nurse, first employed by Barnes-Jewish hospital in St. Louis, MO, until she and Jack moved to Vandalia in 1974. She then worked as an RN at Fayette County Hospital where she eventually became the Director of Nursing, later retiring. After retirement, Gail went back to work as an RN at Cherrywood Nursing Home, Vandalia. She was also a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vandalia.
She is survived by her husband Jack Metivier of Vandalia; sons, David Metivier and wife, Cathy of Woodstock, GA, Mark Metivier and wife, Christi of Lake Quivira, KS, and Andy Metivier and wife, Sarah of Bloomington, IL; brother, Daniel Barenfanger and wife, Carol of Vandalia; and grandchildren,
Ashley, Blake, Adam, Chapman, Parker, Carson, Jade, Mitchell, Peter, and Bradley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Herb Barenfanger; and a sister, April File.
