Proponents of redistricting reform are pleading their case at the State Capitol this week. The clock is ticking to get a constitutional amendment on the November Election Ballot, asking voters to have an independent board draw legislative district maps and not current lawmakers. House Republican Leader Jim Durkin says it’s time to get this passed.
Critics of the current process say it’s time to end gerrymandering—where maps are drawn to give incumbents the best chance of staying in office.
