(Chicago, IL) — Republicans in the state legislature are standing together to oppose any plans to bring a graduated income tax to Illinois. Republicans, including House Minority leader Jim Durkin, are trying to get out in front of a move by Democrats to introduce what they call a progressive tax to Illinois. Durkin says Illinoisans can’t afford the taxes they already face. A graduated tax would require a constitutional amendment, but it is a key part of Democrat J.B. Pritzker’s campaign for governor.
