(Bloomington, IL) — Illinois exports about 60 percent of its soybeans. Half of those go to China. And China just slapped a 25 percent tariff on Illinois beans. Soybean farmers across the state say they’re worried about a trade war with China. Mark Albertson with the Illinois Soybean Association says Illinois is the nation’s largest soybean producer, and exports three-and-a-half billion-dollars worth of soy each year. He says the Chinese buy a ‘huge amount’ of it.
