The City of Vandalia and the council hosted an informational meeting on Friday afternoon to discuss the possibility of the creation of a fire protection district. With members and chiefs of the Vandalia Fire Department on hand as well as representatives from insurance agencies and residents, James Sinclair, an attorney with Stobbs, Sinclair & Associates of Alton, presented the steps that have to happen to create a district. Sinclair first gave a quick background of a fire protection district.
And Sinclair explained that it will be up to the voters in the area of a proposed fire protection district to vote whether they want it if a possible district does appear on the ballot.
Sinclair outlined other steps to creating a district including boundaries and governance of a district as well as finances and equipment and we will hear more about those steps tomorrow during Newscenter.
