(Chicago, IL) — Governor Rauner says all options are still on the table for how to respond to the Legionnaires’ disease outbreak at the Illinois veterans’ home in Quincy. Rauner and his director of veterans’ affairs appeared to disagree this week over how to end the outbreak that’s persisted since 2015 and claimed 13 lives. Rauner disputed Erica Jeffries’ remarks to lawmakers that replacing the plumbing would be too costly. He said the state may replace some buildings or may replace the plumbing and change the water source. The remedy won’t happen soon, though. Rauner says more experts will be brought in and further study will be done, even though a consultant looked at the problem in 2016.
