(Chicago, IL) — Governor Rauner says he’s willing to have conversations about gun laws and school security in the wake of the Florida school massacre last week, but he isn’t backing any specific plans. Illinois Senate Democrats are advancing a bill they’ve tried before that would require gun dealers to get state licenses, do background checks on purchasers and train employees to spot bad buyers. Rauner didn’t voice an opinion on that idea, but said we need to respect the Constitution while working to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. The gun dealer license bill passed the Senate last year, but it died in the House.
