The Vandalia City Council approved a new liquor license at its meeting on Monday night. The license approved is Class E license for the new restaurant in downtown called Blind Society. The restaurant, located next to Witness Distillery and being opened by Amy Gaffney is expected to open its doors in the very near future.
Also at the meeting, the council ratified the agreement to sell a fire truck to the Carlinville Fire Department. Mayor Rick Gottman said the Monday night vote was simply a ratification as the council had already approved the sale and Carlinville had already picked up the truck. The $75,000 from the sale of the truck was then approved by the council to be put towards paying down on the amount owed for the ladder truck purchased by the city within the last few years.
The council also approved the purchase of 25 sets of new turnout gear for the fire department at a cost of just under $40,000 and also approved the sale of some fire rescue equipment to Taylor Springs as it is no longer needed by the Vandalia fire department after recent equipment upgrades.
