(Chicago, IL) — A new bill in Springfield would ban tackle football for kids under 12 in Illinois. Chris Nowinski of the Concussion Legacy Foundation supports the ban because, he says, young people are at a greater risk for neurological damage, including CTE, a debilitating brain disease linked to blows to the head. He says the bill would stop young people from suffering hundreds of hits to the head each football season. The legislation is dubbed the Dave Duerson Act after the former Bears football player who killed himself in 2011 and was found to have CTE. The bill doesn’t ban touch or flag football.
