A Mulberry Grove man has officially been charged with two counts of first degree murder in Fayette County Court. 68-year old David Leroy Bright appeared in court on Thursday where he was advised of the charges against him. Bright is charged with two counts of first degree murder as information states that Bright is alleged to have “without legal justification, struck James Skinner in the head with a sledgehammer, knowing said act created a strong possibility of death to James Skinner, thereby causing the death of James Skinner.” Both counts are Class M felonies which are punishable by 20 years to life in prison. During Thursday’s appearance, Bright was assigned public defender Bill Starnes though there is a possibility Bright may hire private counsel. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for February 13 at 11am. Bright remains in the Fayette County Jail on $1 million bond.
