Deloris M. Peckron, 92, of Vandalia, Illinois passed away at 9:30 PM Friday, January 5, 2018 at Fayette County Hospital LTC.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service in honor of Ms. Peckron will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 11, 2018 at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vandalia with Pastor Krista Stokke officiating. Deloris M. (Lawler) Peckron was born on December 21, 1925, at the Mark Greer Hospital in Vandalia, Illinois. She was the third of seven children born to Nelson and Anna Bell (Stout) Lawler. Deloris was baptized and confirmed in the St. James Lutheran Church. She attended Vandalia Schools (except second grade in Vera, IL) and graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1943.
Being offered a Civil Service job with the Treasury Department in Chicago, she left Vandalia to spend the next 30 years in Chicago and its suburbs. Deloris married Stanley Peckron on July 14, 1945 at the Grace Lutheran Church, where Stan had been baptized and confirmed. They had two children, Jeffrey and Stephen. Stan and Deloris retired back to Vandalia once their children were grown and in college, and Deloris worked for 15 years as secretary to the Administrators of Fayette County Hospital. They moved to Florida in 1986, but found on their subsequent vacations that they preferred North Carolina, and moved to Franklin in February of 1990. Stan preceded in death on August 31, 1990. Deloris then transferred her church membership to St. James Lutheran Church in 1998 when she moved back to Vandalia.
She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Peckron and wife Cheryl of Tucson, AZ and Stephen Peckron and wife Darlene of Beaufort, GA; sister, Jeanne Hohlt of Vandalia; brothers, Larry Lawler and wife Shelby of Decatur and Jerry Lawler and wife Pat of Florissant, MO; grandchildren, Janey Allen, Christopher Peckron, Emily Hubert, Alex Peckron, and Adam Peckron; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Bob Lawler and Dick Lawler; and sister, Connie Wilk.
