(Zeigler, IL) — City leaders in the small southern Illinois town of Zeigler may be out a couple of hundred thousand-dollars. Zeigler Mayor Dennis Mitchell yesterday said that the towns’ insurance is only paying back 100 thousand of the more than 300 thousand-dollars that former city treasurer Ryan Thorpe is alleged to have stolen. The FBI arrested Thorpe last year. Mitchell says the hope is to get back some of Zeigler’s money by selling Thorpe’s property, including two motorcycles, a diamond ring, and more than a dozen guns. But that probably won’t total anywhere near 200 thousand-dollars.
