(Springfield, IL) — The Republican challenger running for governor in Illinois is pitching a tough plan to change the state’s pension systems. Republican Jeanne Ives yesterday unveiled her pension reform proposal that centers on eliminating Illinois‘ constitutional guarantee that protects retirements for state workers, teachers, lawmakers, judges, and university employees. Ives would also force new state employees into a 401(k) style system. Ives said Illinois taxpayers cannot afford the 251 billion-dollars in pension promises made by past governors and lawmakers.
