Two Vandalia men were officially charged in Fayette County Court Tuesday of one count of burglary each. 40-year old James D. Longwell and 46-year old William J. Nordyke, both of Vandalia, made appearances in court Tuesday morning where they were informed of the charges against them. Information for each man states they allegedly “or one for whom he is legally responsible, without authority, knowingly entered a shed, located at 827 E. 2475th in Ramsey with the intent to commit a theft.” The count of burglary is a Class 2 felony and is punishable by three to seven years in prison. Each defendant was ordered to not have contact with the victim, or the owner of the property and each requested a public defender. Longwell was appointed Conflict Public Defender Ryan Connor while Nordyke was appointed Public Defender Bill Starnes. Bond for Longwell has been set at $150,000 while bond for Nordyke was set at $100,000. Following the alleged burglary, the two individuals are alleged to have ran and led to a long search on Sunday morning by multiple participating law enforcement agencies covering the wooded areas southwest of Ramsey. Just before noon, Fayette County Sheriff Chris Smith announced the two individuals were in custody. Longwell and Nordyke currently both remain in the Fayette County Jail
