The Bicentennial Celebration for the State of Illinois officially had kicked–in what will be a 1 year celebration of the state’s 200th anniversary next year. On Monday, the bicentennial flag was raised over the Vandalia Statehouse to commemorate the kick off of the program. Dale Timmermann is coordinating the local events that are part of the celebration. He talked about what was in this area 200 years ago at this time and there wasn’t much. But, he says that would rapidly change in the period of time after Illinois officially became a state.
The bicentennial celebration will be on going around the state in activities over this next year—leading up to December 3rd of 2018, the official 200th birthday of the state.
