Governor Bruce Rauner is declaring the state’s first ever harvest emergency. Fall harvest has been hampered by rain delays in many parts of the state, so the Governor is declaring a state of emergency under a new law. The law lets grain haulers increase their weight limit by 10 percent for the next 45 days says State Agriculture Director Raymond Poe.
Thanks to the increased rainfall, corn harvest has been especially slowed in the northern and eastern parts of the state.
