Matt Carpenter homered in the third to stake St. Louis to a 1-0 lead, but Seung-Hwan Oh served up a two-run blast to Starling Marte in the fifth to put Pittsburgh in front for good. Jameson Taillon got the win. John Gant started for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals have lost two in a row to fall to 81-and-74. They are two-and-a-half games behind Colorado for the second NL wild card with seven games remaining.

(Milwaukee, WI) — Jose Quintana struck out 10 while firing a three-hit shutout as the Cubs blanked the Brewers 5-0 in Milwaukee. Quintana allowed just three singles and Ben Zobrist hit a two-run homer as Chicago took three-of-four in the series. The Cubs lead Milwaukee by five-and-a-half in the NL Central. They play the Cardinals in St. Louis tonight.
