(East Moline, IL) — The union that represents a Quad Cities prison guard injured in a weekend attack says serious security flaws are to blame. AFSCME Local 46’s Cody Dornes yesterday said the guard’s radio didn’t work when she was attacked, and other inmates were able to get out of their cells which made the situation more dangerous. Dornes said the unidentified guard needed six staples to close a head wound. Illinois‘ Department of Corrections yesterday said it is investigating the attack. AFSCME has complained about security at Illinois‘ prisons for years.
