(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago City Council is going on record and calling for a state law to replace the DACA program, if its protection of young undocumented immigrants goes away. Aldermen unanimously passed a resolution yesterday calling for the state to pass its own Dream Act. Aldermen like Harry Osterman said Dreamers deserve protection, because all they and their parents want is a better way of life and a chance to contribute. Mayor Emanuel says Governor Rauner should get behind such a law, but Rauner says it’s an issue for Congress. He said these young people should not be left in limbo and called on Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform. Illinois has about 42-thousand Dreamers.
