(Harrisburg, IL) – Southern Illinois is losing one of its last longtime state lawmakers. State Rep. Brandon Phelps announced late Friday that he is resigning his seat in the Illinois General Assembly. WSIL TV reports that Phelps is struggling with eye problems. Phelps has been a fixture for southern Illinois in Springfield since 2003. His biggest legislative accomplishment was passing a concealed carry law back in 2013.
