A St. Peter man charged with 1st Degree Murder in connection with the shooting death of a Nokomis man is set to appear in Fayette County Court today. 24-year old Alexander R. Beccue is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 11am this morning. This appearance will be Beccue’s first with defense counsel as Ed Deters was entered as Beccue’s counsel on Monday. Beccue is charged with 2 counts of First Degree Murder, one count of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and one count of Unlawful Possession of Weapon by a Felon. Beccue’s bond was set at $1 million dollars during a court appearance on August 14. During that appearance, Fayette County State’s Attorney Joshua Morrison said there was an outstanding warrant for parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections and they will send him back to DOC. After a brief search on August 11, Beccue was arrested in connection with the shooting that caused fatal injuries to Joshua K. Smith. At the time of the initial charges, Beccue was charged with Attempted First Degree Murder. But, Smith passed away later that afternoon. And, the charges were officially amended to First Degree Murder on August 14.
