Governor Bruce Rauner is signing a new law to help prevent pension “double dipping.” the legislation addresses a loophole in current law, that lets retired police officers return to duty and collect two pensions from the same pension fund. Governor Rauner says it’s an important bill, since “double dipping” can put a huge strain on local finances.
Officers coming out of retirement to take a new position with another department or as a Police Chief will instead be offered a 401-K type of plan.
