(Pittsburgh, PA) — The Cardinals held off a wild late-inning rally to top the Pirates 11-10 in Pittsburgh. Home runs from Matt Carpenter, Tommy Pham, and Paul DeJong helped power St. Louis to an eight-run advantage heading into the bottom-of-the-eighth. The Cards’ bull pen would give up seven runs before Seung-Hwan Oh shut the door for the save. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny says the bull pen was shaky but Seung-Hwan Oh did the job when called upon.
Carlos Martinez tossed seven frames of three-run ball to pick up the win. Pittsburgh starter Trevor Williams surrendered eight runs over three-plus innings to take the loss. Josh Harrison, David Freese, and Max Moroff went deep. The Pirates are on a six-game slide.
