The Illinois Senate is voting to override the Governor’s amendatory veto of an education funding reform bill. The bill is required to let the state send education dollars to Illinois schools. The Governor made some changes, saying the original measure gives too much money to Chicago schools. But, State Senator Kimberly Lightford says the school funding formula needs to be fair to all children.
If the House also overrides the Governor’s amendatory veto, which requires a 3/5th majority vote, the original legislation will become law.
