Dorothy E. Verdeyen, 90, of Altamont, died at 5:35 p.m., Thursday, August 10, 2017 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August, 15, 2017 at St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont with Rev. John Savoree officiating. Burial will follow at St. Clare Cemetery, Altamont. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 14th at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont. Memorials may be made to St. Clare Catholic Church or the donor’s choice.
Dorothy was born on Monday, August 23, 1926 in Lillyville, rural Cumberland County, IL to Louis and Emma (Westendorf) Willenborg. She married Henry Verdeyen on October 4, 1945 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lillyville. She was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church. She was a former member of the St. Clare Altar Society, had volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She was a homemaker, and formerly had been employed at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Altamont Garment Factory, Dutch Pantry Restaurant and Gilbert’s Family Restaurant and Altamont High School.
She is survived by her husband of over 71 years, Henry of Altamont; sons, John (Dorothy) Verdeyen and Mike (Emma) Verdeyen of Altamont; daughters, Barb Stewart of Brownstown, Theresa Verdeyen, Altamont, Jane (Roger) Meier, Centralia and Deb Wright, Altamont; sisters, Martha Bushue, Mason and Nellie Donsbach, Effingham; 12 grandchildren, Todd (Tina) Verdeyen, Altamont, Meredith Stewart and Travis Stewart, both of Brownstown, Tonya (Mike) Flach, Altamont, Jennifer (Jeff) Arnold, Effingham, Tanner (Amie) Meier, Patoka, Dustin (Jona) Meier, Centralia, Tai (Rick) Kasban, Ashley, Jessica (Dave) Arnold, Champaign, Vanessa Wright, Altamont, Megan (Devin) Althoff, St. Joseph, and Molly Verdeyen, Altamont; 16 great grandchildren and one on the way; Quinn, Pierce, Anneke, McKenna, Clayton, Hayden, Olivia, Norah, Evan, Logan, Devin, Ava, Brody, Chase, Kaylee, and Loren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, a son in infancy, daughter, Patricia, 2 brothers and 2 brothers in infancy, 1 sister and 1 son-in-law.
