The Illinois Department of Transportation is making preparations for the solar eclipse later this month. The best viewing spots on Monday, August 21st will be in southern Illinois. I-DOT is getting ready for crowds of up to 200 thousand people traveling roads like U.S. Route 51, Illinois Route 13 and Interstate 57 says spokesperson Guy Tridgell.
Tridgell says they are working closely with state and local police for the event. He urges motorists traveling downstate to be prepared for heavy traffic and to not pull over to the side of the road to watch the eclipse.
