(Chicago, IL) — There could be a lot of empty seats at the Illinois Capitol for the first day of special session. Lawmakers are due back at the statehouse in Springfield at noon today, but yesterday two Chicago lawmakers announced that they’re not coming. State Rep Kelly Cassidy and State Rep Ann Williams yesterday said they will instead stay in Chicago and help get schools in the city ready for the return of students. Williams says she has no desire to “play political games” this week.
