A fire on Monday in St. Elmo did major damage to a home, causing the family that lived there to be displaced for the time being. St. Elmo Fire Chief Doug Engeljohn says the fire was at the home of Kenneth and Becky Gammon, which is located in the 100 block of North Elm Street in St. Elmo. Chief Engeljohn says the fire was in the attic in the insulation. Engeljohn says they had to pull the ceiling in the kitchen and moved everything outside to try and keep the damage as minimal as possible. Engeljohn says they called Brownstown and Altamont Fire Departments for mutual aid and St. Peter Fire Department to cover their fire station. The American Red Cross had volunteers respond to help the family find a place to stay in the aftermath of the fire. Chief Engeljohn said it was the Gammons and two children that resided there. Engeljohn says the family is displaced because of the ceiling having the be removed in their kitchen and part of the living room due to the fire.
