(Pittsburgh, PA) — Josh Bell launched the walk-off, three-run homer in the ninth inning as the Pirates downed the Cardinals, 5-2, in Pittsburgh. Bell slammed the winning homer of off Seung-Hwan Oh to give the Bucs a win to open the second-half of the season. Gerrit Cole tossed six innings of two-run ball, with Felipe Rivero coming away with the win. Pittsburgh is 43-and-47. Jedd Gyorko belted a two-run shot in the first for St. Louis. Oh took the loss, falling to 1-and-5. The Cards are 43-and-46.
(Baltimore, MD) — Addison Russell hit the go-ahead homer in the ninth inning to help lift the Cubs past the Orioles 9-8 in Baltimore. The Cubs led by eight runs after three innings but would squander the big advantage which set up Russell to be the hero. Ben Zobrist, Jason Heyward, Willson Contreras, and Kyle Schwarber also went deep. Chicago is 44-and-45. Mark Trumbo capped off the O’s comeback with a two-run homer to tie the game in the eighth. Brad Brach gave up the deciding home run to take the loss. Kevin Gausman surrendered eight runs over three frames in the no decision.
