James E. “Jim” Forbes, 81, of Farina passed away on July 6, 2017 at St. Anthony Hospital, Effingham, IL.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia with Rev. PeeWee Denton officiating. Military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95, Vandalia, IL & Brownstown VFW Post #9770. James Hallie Forbes was born April 26, 1936 in Vandalia, the son of Bill and Hazel (Trexler) Forbes. He married Marjorie Hall on February 28, 1959; she preceded in him in death on March 23, 2003. He later married Carolyn Hopper on April 1, 2010. Jim was a retired weatherman for the US Weather Bureau, he had previously sailed Navy ships all around the world, built and played guitars, was a songwriter, gun collector, and enjoyed photography. He was a US Air Force veteran.
Jim is survived by his wife Carolyn of Farina; son Bryan Forbes of Vandalia; step son Dave Forbes of Harristown, IL; brother Larry Forbes of Stonington, IL; half sister Mary Perry of California; 3 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, son Michael Forbes, daughter Theresa Forbes, and 2 grandchildren.
