House lawmakers are taking a big step towards ending the budget impasse. The Illinois House voted 90 to 25 for an amendment containing a full year budget. Speaker Michael Madigan says it’s a good sign, but notes there are still details to hammer out and a vote on the actual bill still must be taken.
If the roll call vote is any indicator, the budget should pass as it did gain several Republican votes, including from State Representative Steve Anderson.
Madigan says he will hold a Leaders Meeting to finish up the budget and other issues, and will hold a meeting on revenue. He is asking the Bond Houses to hold off on dropping the state down to junk status. The House will be in session this weekend.
