An Effingham man was injured in a two vehicle accident on Interstate 70 in Effingham County on Thursday. The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon at 3:23 pm on Interstate 70 eastbound at mile marker 83—which is one mile east of Altamont. Preliminary reports from the Illinois State Police says that a vehicle driven by 36 year old Luke Culbertson of Effingham was westbound on I-70 when the vehicle left the roadway to the left, crossing the median into the eastbound lanes, where it struck the left rear tandem wheels of a trailer in the right lane that was being pulled by 65 year old Bernard Osterberg of Paducah, Kentucky. Culberton was entrapped and extricated by Altamont Fire Department and was then flown by Air Evac to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Osterberg was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
