A capacity crowd was on hand Saturday morning for the Vandalia Lake committee’s informational meeting for lake area residents concerning the two major issues of the 99-year lease for the lake lots and a possible annexation of those lots into the city. As the floor was opened up to those in attendance to share their thought or opinions and questions, one of the first questions was from lake resident Bill Donaldson who asked the mayor and council members how many people had contacted him about the two issues.
Joe Hill, the Supervisor for Sharon Township which includes the Vandalia Lake area, was on hand for the meeting and addressed a couple things he wanted to make sure the residents know about as they look at the issues.
And, Hill addressing the much talked about issue of increasing property taxes should an annexation happen.
Lake resident of more than 20 years Rhodes Hood relayed what the law was when he lived in Missouri and questioned as whether an annexation could be done without input or a vote from the lake residents to which Mayor Gottman answered that it could not.
We will have even more from the Vandalia lake Committee meeting coming up tomorrow on Newscenter.
