(Baltimore, MD) — The Cardinals slammed five home runs as they got past the Orioles, 11-2, in Baltimore. Paul DeJong, Matt Carpenter and Tommy Pham each belted two-run shots, with Dexter Fowler and Jedd Gyorko adding solo homers. Carlos Martinez struck out eight over six innings of one-run ball to earn the win. The Cards ended a three-game slide. Kevin Gausman allowed nine hits and five runs to take the loss for Baltimore. Trey Mancini homered in defeat. The O’s have dropped eight of their past nine games.
(Pittsburgh, PA) — The Cubs reeled off six runs in the top of the ninth inning as they clipped the Pirates, 9-5, in Pittsburgh. Jon Jay singled in the go-ahead run before Anthony Rizzo and Addison Russell padded the lead. Koji Uehara tossed an inning of relief to earn the win as the Cubs evened their record to 33-and-33. Josh Bell homered and tripled for the Bucs, driving in three runs. Juan Nicasio gave up four runs without recording an out in the ninth inning to take the loss for Pittsburgh. The Pirates are 30-and-37.
