A Maryland man was injured in a one vehicle accident on Saturday morning in Effingham County. Illinois State Police say the accident occurred on I-70 at mile marker 81 at 8:50 Saturday morning. Preliminary investigative reports indicate 24 year old Derek Plastow of Owings, Maryland was traveling westbound on I-70 when the vehicle left the south side of the roadway entering the median. The vehicle then traveled back in the westbound lanes of traffic sliding sideways, rolling over and coming to a stop on its wheels in the westbound exit ramp lane for Altamont. The vehicle then drove westbound on the exit ramp to South Main Street in Altamont then traveled north on South Main. The vehicle then exited the east side of the roadway, coming to a stop in a private residence ½ mile north of I-70. Plastow was charged with Improper Lane Usage, DUI, Possession of Drug Paraphanelia, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Plastow was also taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham for treatment.
A two vehicle accident on I-57 in Effingham County led to an Effingham individual being taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries. The accident occurred at 12:45 am on Saturday morning on Interstate 57 in Effingham County, 2 miles north of Effingham. Illinois State Police reports show that a semi driven by 72 year old Charles J. Wozniak of Metuchen, New Jersey was soutbound on I-57 in the right lane at a slow rate of speed. A vehicle driven by 32 year old Kelby L. Williams of Effingham came upon the Wozniak semi and did not realize the vehicle was traveling that slow. State Police say that Williams took evasive action and swerved left in an attempt avoid impacting the Wozniak vehicle. The front side of Williams’ vehicle struck the left rear of the semi-trailer being towed by the Wozniak vehicle. Williams vehicle then came to rest in the median. Williams was transported to St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham. Wozniak was ticketed for Violating Minimum Speed Regulations.
