(St. Louis, MO) — Carlos Martinez tossed a complete game shutout as the Cardinals blanked the Phillies, 7-0, in St. Louis. Martinez allowed just four hits and struck out 11 batters to get the win. Jedd Gyorko and Matt Carpenter each slammed two-run doubles in the win. The Cards have won two straight games since ending a seven-game slide. Nick Pivetta tossed five frames of four-run ball to take the loss for Philadelphia. Tommy Joseph had two of their four hits in defeat.
(Chicago, IL) — The Rockies piled up their seventh straight win as they ripped the Cubs, 9-1, in Chicago. Mark Reynolds and Charlie Blackmon went deep for the Rox, and Nolan Arenado smashed a bases-clearing double. Reynolds finished 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Jeff Hoffman improved to 4-and-0 with six-and-a-third innings of one-run ball. Eddie Butler got tagged with the loss for the Cubs, who are on a four-game slide. Chicago sits at 30-and-31 on the year.
