(Denver, CO) — The Rockies used an eight-run eighth inning to pull away from the Cardinals, 10-0, in Denver. Charlie Blackmon homered and singled in a run in the eighth and finished a double shy of the cycle. Mark Reynolds also homered in the frame while Nolan Arenado, Trevor Story and Gerardo Parra plated runs on doubles. Antonio Senzatela threw eight shutout innings to improve to 7-and-1 for Colorado. Carlos Martinez struck out nine but took the loss for St. Louis. The Cards have dropped seven of their past nine games.
(Los Angeles, CA) — Alex Wood and two relievers combined for a two-hitter as the Dodgers shutout the Cubs, 4-0, in Los Angeles. Wood struck out eight over five strong innings to improve to 6-and-0. Pedro Baez and Chris Hatcher each tossed two-frames of hitless relief to shut the door. Chase Utley and Adrian Gonzalez homered as the Dodgers won for the seventh time in 10 games. Chicago had its three-game winning streak snapped. Jake Arrieta surrendered four runs in six innings of work to take the loss.
