(Chicago, IL) — The Illinois House is sending Governor Rauner a bill that would eliminate the statute of limitations in child-sex abuse cases. The proposed change was prompted by calls from prosecutors and from one man who suffered abuse by Dennis Hastert when the former U.S. House Speaker was a high school wrestling coach. Revelation of Hastert’s abuse came too late to bring charges against him. Governor Rauner has indicated his support for the bill, which would put Illinois in line with 36 other states and the federal government where there’s no time limit for prosecuting child-sex crimes.
