House Republicans say the Governor’s office is rescinding the layoff of 124 Illinois Department of Corrections Nurses. The plan was to replace the nurses with private contractors. But, that plan is now off as the layoff notices have been rescinded. State Representative John Cavaletto was among the lawmakers that urged the administration to rescind the layoffs and return to the bargaining table.
The nurses had received notices that they would be dismissed in June and replaced with the contract employees. And, the Governor’s office had estimated using all privately contracted nurses would have saved the state about 8 million dollars.
