(Chicago, IL) — Supporters of raising the minimum wage in Illinois are expecting a vote on the issue soon in Springfield. At a minimum wage rally at the State Capitol, State Representative Will Guzzardi of Chicago said his bill would gradually raise the minimum wage from the current eight-dollars-25-cents an hour to 15-dollars by 2022. He told the crowd, quote, “We should be ashamed as a society that people can work full time and still live in poverty.” Opponents argue the increase would hurt business. Guzzardi says he’s gathering support and would like to see a vote on the plan soon.
