(New York, NY) — Starlin Castro and Austin Romine drilled home runs as the Yankees clipped the Cardinals, 4-3, in the Bronx. Castro belted a two-run tater and Romine added a solo shot for the Yanks. Masahiro Tanaka gave up five hits and three runs over six-and-a-third innings to get the win. Aroldis Chapman notched his third save in New York’s fifth straight win. Michael Wacha was charged with the loss for St. Louis. Matt Carpenter homered in defeat as the Cards fell to 3-and-7.
(Chicago, IL) — Francisco Cervelli’s two-run double capped a three-run sixth inning that propelled the Pirates to a 4-2 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. David Freese tied the game at two with an RBI single and also doubled in a run in the second. Gerrit Cole pitched six innings of two-run ball for the win. Tony Watson escaped a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to post his third save. Kyle Hendricks took the loss. Ben Zobrist and Kyle Schwarber had RBI singles for the Cubs.
