A total of 17 school districts, including the Vandalia School District, have filed a lawsuit against the State of Illinois for missing funds for Education. The lawsuit calls for the state, Governor Bruce Rauner and the State Board of Education to carry out their constitutional duty of adequately funding a “high quality education” for all students. Vandalia Superintendent of Schools Rich Well says he praises the Vandalia School Board for agreeing for them to be a part of this.
Although they are receiving their general state aid, school districts are missing all their other funding—such as for special education, vocational, and transportation. And, for the Vandalia School District that adds up to 1.4 million dollars in missing funds. Along with Vandalia, some of the other area districts to sign onto the lawsuit including Mulberry Grove, Bond County, Pana, and Nokomis. We’ll talk more with Well coming up tomorrow during NewsCenter.
