(Springfield, IL) — There is a push to enforce nursing home staffing laws. Reports say one-third of long-term care skilled facilities are understaffed. The 2014 Illinois Nursing Home Safety Act requires nursing homes to provide nearly four hours of direct care staffing for every skilled care resident. Nearly 20 nursing homes have been cited for staffing violations. Two lawmakers have introduced legislation to enforce penalties when facilities fail to meet proper staff-patient ratios. The legislation proposes fines for non-compliance.
