(Springfield, IL) — A pair of Republican Senators in Springfield want to jump start the so-called ‘grand bargain’ by working around it. Quincy’s Jil Tracy and Wheaton’s Mike Connelly yesterday asked Democrats to vote on pension reform outside of the complicated package of tax hikes that make-up the ‘bargain.’ Tracy says there’s no need to wait for what everyone agrees needs to happen with state pensions. The overall ‘bargain’ is stalled because Republicans say the package doesn’t include any spending cuts or enough tax relief.
