(Chicago, IL) — Illinois Senate Democrats are chastising Governor Rauner for calling for more spending cuts but not providing any details of what might be trimmed to fill a five-billion-dollar hole. The Democrats say Governor Rauner last week scuttled the bipartisan compromise budget and then asked for more cuts. But they say when they grilled his department heads about what else could be cut, they got no answers. Senator Patricia Van Pelt rhetorically wondered why, if there is such a budget gap, Rauner hasn’t discussed further cuts with his department heads. Senate Republicans say it’s time for further negotiations on a budget, but Democrats say time is running out to prevent the state from entering a third year without a complete budget.
